Apprentice Security Engineer - Greenhous Support, High Ercall

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 4.30 pm i.e. 37.5 hours per week. 1 hour for lunch (unpaid). 

Salary: National Minimum Wage

As an active and important part of our small technical team you will be responsible for day to day network management activities related to cyber security. Additionally, under direction you will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance, development and constant improvement of our security tooling stack.

Other duties may be required of the post holder in addition to those listed above and below, to ensure that the requirements of the business are met at all times.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Help administer the Group’s Security Operations Centre.
  • Work across our growing toolset to monitor the entire infrastructure and react to real time threats as they occur.
  • Intrusion detection and illegal activity monitoring.
  • Assist with penetration and vulnerability testing.
  • Implement network, firewall, patching and other technical security matters.
  • Ensure up to date patch management is undertaken.
  • Assist with security audits and documentation.
  • Assist in ensuring that vulnerability reporting is appropriate and escalated to key decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Prioritise daily activities to accomplish assignments and meet project deadlines.

You should have an inquisitive nature regarding technical matters as you will need to:

  • Stay abreast of developments and new solutions related to security and IT.
  • Assist with new product evaluations.
  • Drive incident and service request ticket logging, ownership, problem solving and update through to resolution for network and cyber security related matters.

What we need from you:

  • Strong computer skills, with an interest in developing a career in IT.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong team player.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A thorough understanding of the network infrastructure fundamentals.
  • A good working knowledge of various security technologies such as: active directory, anti-malware protection, vulnerability scanners, intrusion detection/prevention, system hardening along with some knowledge of MS-Windows server operating systems.
  • A willingness and ability to learn about new technologies and solutions and be keen to develop own skills and knowledge.
  • Confident communicator with polite telephone manner.
  • A GCSE ICT grade would be preferable.
